The late Middle Ages (ca. 1250 AD - 1500 AD) are characterized by the decline of the feudal system and the transition from Gothic to early Renaissance style. It was an era of financial crises, accompanied by increasing urbanization. Humanism and an interest in classical antiquity also led to a revival in philosophy and theology, along with one of the most significant scientific inventions: the printing press.
