Dr Takeshi Hamano is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Kitakyushu, Japan. Since receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Western Sydney, he has worked as a Research Fellow at the Global Center of Excellence for Reconstruction of the Intimate and Public Sphere in 21st Century Asia, Kyoto University and as a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Japanese Studies of the University of Michigan. A specialist in Sociology and Cultural Studies, Dr Hamano’s research focuses on the transforming perception of the family in Japan, specifically issues concerning marriage (including cross-border marriage), divorce and parenting in the process of globalization.
