British Library MS Harley 913, known as the 'Kildare Manuscript', contains the earliest examples of Anglo-Irish writing. It includes numerous well-known poems and gives vivid insights into the lives of Anglo-Irish Franciscans at a time of unrest between native Irish and English settlers.
Thorlac Turville-Petre is Professor Emeritus at the University of Nottingham, where he taught Medieval English literature for forty years. His many writings have focussed on alliterative poetry, editorial theory and practice, manuscript history, and national identity in medieval England and Ireland.
